DEPARTMENT MANUAL - VOLUME III: CLERICAL PROCEDURES
304 - FIELD UNIT SELECTION SEQUENCE.
304.01 PURPOSE.
These policies exist to regulate the type of units that respond to different categories of Calls For Service (CFS).
Officer's Responsibility. Upon a CFS being either broadcast over the radio, added to the call stack on the MDT, or other, officers shall consider their own unit type before assigning themselves to the CFS. Officers shall follow the hierarchies outlined below.
Supervisor's Responsibility. Supervisors shall attempt to regulate the unit types that respond to CFS by following the hierarchies outlined below.
Example: A CFS comes in regarding domestic violence. A Tom unit (Traffic Investigator) assigns themselves even though there are 2 Adam units Clear. The Supervisor shall cancel the response of the Tom unit and instead assign the CFS to an Adam unit.
NOTE: Units not carrying firearms shall not respond to Priority I/II/III CFS. However, LSPRD, SASPA and SADSH units not carrying firearms may respond to Priority I/II/III CFS within their jurisdictions which usually restrict the access of firearms. Officers shall attempt to use common sense in one-off situations such as this.
