Wearing of the Badge/Uniform

On-Duty, Uniformed Agents. Uniformed employees shall wear their official Department-issued badge on the outermost garment of their uniform. However, agents wearing a department approved garment or accessory, may wear a facsimile badge.

On-Duty, Plainclothes Agents. Agents which conduct their day-to-day duties in plain clothes shall wear their official issued badge and ID card so it is readily accessible for presentation to members of the public.

WEARING OF UNIFORM ACCESORIES. When on an assignment where interacting with other agencies or with members of the public is a possibility, plainclothes agents should wear accessories or clothing items that identify them as a PIA agent, unless tactical conditions prohibit it. In addition, they must have their badge openly visible.

WHO SHALL WEAR UNIFORM. All employees regardless of rank shall wear the prescribed uniform and personal equipment during their tours of duty.

EXEMPTIONS TO UNIFORM REGULATIONS. Command staff and Undercover agents are exempt from uniform regulations.

Accessories, Plain Clothes Agents

EARPIECE. Agents may choose to wear an earpiece.

EXTERNAL ARMOUR. In situations where, due to tactical conditions, an extra layer of protection could be required, agents may put on external armour. Shall be black in color and bear a PIA badge facsimile and positively identify the officer as a PIA federal agent.

HELMETS. Agents may choose to wear a ballistic helmet for situations which require extra ballistic protection. Ballistic helmets shall be dark in colour.

HOLSTER. Agents may choose to carry their service firearm in a low profile outer holster, shoulder holster, or in a concealed inside-the-waistband holster. In situations where required by tactical conditions, agents may choose to wear a drop-leg holster.

POLO SHIRT. Agents may choose to wear a polo shirt bearing either only the NOoSE logo and lettering, or NOoSE logo with "POLICE PIA" lettering on the back.

WINDBREAKERS. Agents may choose to wear a windbreaker as their outermost clothing item. It shall be blue in color and must display "POLICE PIA" lettering.

Accessories, Uniformed Agents

BASEBALL CAP. Agents wearing Class B/C uniforms may wear a blue baseball cap bearing a PIA embroidered badge.

COLD WEATHER HAT. Agents may choose to wear a black fleece cap during inclement weather.

EARPIECE. Agents may choose to wear an earpiece.

GLOVES. Black leather or knitted gloves may be worn for inclement weather. Gloves in solid, muted colors may be worn in situations where extra protection is required. Nitrile gloves may be worn when providing first aid, or collecting evidence.

HOLSTER. Agents may choose between a polymer retention holster on their belt and a drop leg holster.

JACKETS. Agents may choose to wear a department-issued jacket during inclement weather, or during cold periods of time.

PLATE CARRIER / EXTERNAL ARMOUR. Agents may choose to conduct their field duties in a plate carrier. It shall be black in color and bear a PIA badge facsimile and identify the officer as a PIA federal agent.

SHOULDER / CHEST MIC. Agents may choose to wear a shoulder or chest mic for their radio.

TURTLENECK. Agents may choose to wear a department-issued turtleneck under their duty shirt during inclement weather. It shall be blue, and bear the text "POLICE."

ZIPTIES. During major public order situations, officers may choose to wear extra ziptie cuffs on their belt.

Uniformed Agents Uniform Types

Class A Uniform

Shall be worn by any agent attending a formal event.

May be worn by agents conducting field activities.


SHIRT. Long sleeve shirt to be worn with the tie. 

PANTS. Standard duty pants, blue in color.

FOOTWEAR. Black boots.

BELT. Black nylon belt, with a plastic buckle.

Class B / C Uniform

May be worn by officers conducting field activities.


SHIRT. Long sleeve or short sleeve shirt, with open collar.

PANTS. Standard duty pants, blue in color. Alternatively, agents may choose to utilize BDU style pants, blue in color. Agents may choose to blouse their  BDU pants.

FOOTWEAR. Black boots.

BELT. Black nylon belt, with a plastic buckle.

HOLSTER. Agents may choose a drop leg holster when wearing BDU pants instead of a polymer retention holster on their belt.

BASEBALL CAP. Agents may wear a blue baseball cap bearing a PIA embroidered badge.

PIA Tactical Response Unit Uniform

Shall be worn by agents of the PIA TRU.

SHIRT. Camouflaged long sleeve combat shirt, bearing the patches of the PIA TRU.

PANTS. Camouflaged tactical pants.

BODY ARMOR. Similarly colored external armor, which displays “POLICE” and "N.O.O.S.E. TACTICAL RESPONSE UNIT".

HELMET. Similarly colored ballistic helmet.

BELT / HOLSTER. Alternatively, a tan equipment belt and/or a tan pistol holster may also be worn.

Ranks and Paygrades

Agents do not display rank on their uniform.
