Wearing of the Department Issued Badge

On-Duty, Uniformed Employees. Uniformed employees shall wear their official Department-issued badge on the outermost garment of their uniform. However officers in a Department-approved specialised uniform, (e.g., outer vest) may wear a facsimile badge.

On-Duty, Plainclothes Deputies. On-duty, plainclothes deputies shall wear their official Department-issued badge and ID card so it is readily accessible for presentation to members of the public.


WHO SHALL WEAR UNIFORM. All employees regardless of rank shall wear the prescribed uniform and personal equipment during their tours of duty.

EXEMPTIONS TO WEARING UNIFORMS. The following officers are exempted from wearing the prescribed uniforms - Sheriff; Executive Staff; Command staff; and, Undercover and plainclothes assignment deputies.

Accessories

BASEBALL CAP. May optionally be worn with Class B/C uniforms. May be worn by deputies while wearing Utility Uniform. It shall be green or black in color and display some form of identifying insignia.

BEANIE. May optionally be worn during inclement weather. The beanie shall be black in color. 

BODYCAM. Bodycams shall be worn by Deputies; the older Coil Body 2 or newer Coil Body 3 is to be used. 

Exemptions: Wearing of the bodycam is not required: 

CAMPAIGN HAT. This hat shall only be worn on formal occasions and not in the field. It shall be brown in color and have a small MCSO badge attached to the front.

COWBOY HAT. Non-probationary deputies may choose to wear a plain, sand colored cowboy hat with their uniform. Shall not be worn during formal events. The Sheriff may choose to wear a cowboy hat equipped with a badge.

CITATION BAR. Deputies may choose to wear an American Flag citation bar on their right breast pocket underneath their badge.

EARPIECE. Deputies may choose to wear an earpiece.

EXTERNAL ARMOUR. Deputies may choose to wear external armor vests with the Duty Uniform or Utility Uniform. External armor vests shall be olive-green in color, and must display "SHERIFF" and/or a facsimile or real MCSO badge. 

EXTERNAL STAB VEST. Deputies may choose to wear external stab vests with the Duty Uniform or Utility Uniform. External stab vests shall be olive-green in color, and must display "SHERIFF" and/or a facsimile or real MCSO badge. 

EXTERNAL LOAD BEARING VEST. Deputies may choose to wear external load-bearing vests with the Duty Uniform or Utility Uniform. External load-bearing vests shall be olive-green in color, and must display "SHERIFF" and/or a facsimile or real MCSO badge. 

DUTY BELTS. Deputies may elect to any personally-acquired duty belt in lieu of their issued leather belt at their own discretion. 

GLOVES. Black leather or knitted gloves may be worn for inclement weather. Gloves in solid, muted colors may be worn in situations where extra protection is required. Nitrile gloves may be worn when providing first aid, or collecting evidence. 

HELMETS. Deputies may carry a ballistic helmet in their patrol vehicle for situations which require extra ballistic protection. Deputies may wear riot helmets during riots/major public order situations. Ballistic helmets shall be green in colour. 

HOLSTER. Unless specified, all deputies shall wear a black retention holster on their belt or thigh.

Note: Deputies may choose to wear a basketweave holster so long as it matches with the belt type.

JACKETS. Deputies may choose to wear a department-issued jacket during inclement weather, or during cold periods of time. 

RAIN CLOTHING. Rain clothing shall be worn during such times as deputies may be exposed to inclement weather. It shall consist of the following: Hood and; Coat or cape. 

SHOULDER / CHEST MIC. Deputies may choose to wear a shoulder or chest mic for their radio. 

TASER. If a deputy chooses to utilise a taser, they shall use a black taser.

Dropleg Holster: Officers may use the dropleg taser holster. This may be used with any B/C uniform.

TRAFFIC VEST. Deputies shall wear reflective safety vests while working in the roadway.  However, a vest is not required when a deputy conducts a traffic stop. 

WINDBREAKER. Detectives and other plainclothes assignments may choose to wear a marked windbreaker to identify themselves as a member of the department. It shall be green in color, bear the department patches, embroidered badge, and the text "SHERIFF" or "MAJESTIC COUNTY SHERIFF".

ZIPTIES. During major public order situations, deputies may choose to wear extra ziptie cuffs on their belt. 

UNIFORM TYPES

Class A Uniform

Shall be worn by any Deputy Sheriff Trainee.

Shall be worn by any deputy attending a formal event.

May be worn by deputies conducting field activities.


SHIRT. Long sleeve shirt to be worn with the tie. Shall be worn with the metal badge and name plate.

PANTS. Standard duty pants, olive green in colour.

FOOTWEAR. Black boots.

HOLSTER. Black retention holster worn on the hip.

BELT. Black leather belt, with metallic buckle and metallic pouch buttons.

Class B / C (Duty) Uniform

May be worn by deputies conducting field activities.


SHIRT. Long sleeve or short sleeve shirt, with open collar. Shall be worn with the metal badge and name plate.

PANTS. Standard slack-style pants, OR straight cargo-style pants, olive green in colour.

FOOTWEAR. Black or tan boots.

BELT. Black belt

HOLSTER. Deputies may opt to wear a thigh holster in lieu of the standard duty holster.

EXTERNAL CARRIER OR ARMOR VEST. May be worn.

Utility Uniform

On-duty policing, corrections and prisoner transport personnel may optionally wear the utility uniform at their discretion. 


SHIRT. Long or short sleeve shirt, with open collar. Shall be worn with a sewn badge and sewn name patch.

PANTS. BDU or straight cargo-style pants, olive green in colour.

FOOTWEAR. Black or tan boots.

BELT. Black belt

HOLSTER. Deputies may opt to wear a thigh holster in lieu of the standard duty holster.

EXTERNAL CARRIER OR ARMOR VEST. May be worn.

K-9 Uniform

On-duty K9 Unit personnel shall wear the Utility uniform.


SHIRT. Long or short sleeve shirt, with open collar. Shall be worn with a sewn badge and sewn name patch.

PANTS. BDU pants, olive green in colour. May be bloused.

FOOTWEAR. Black or tan boots.

BELT. Black belt

HOLSTER. Deputies may opt to wear a thigh holster in lieu of the standard duty holster.

EXTERNAL CARRIER OR ARMOR VEST. May be worn.

Off-Highway Vehicle Enforcement Team Uniform

Shall be worn by deputies assigned to the Off-Highway Vehicle Enforcement team.


SHIRT. Any tan colored sleeved shirt bearing standard department patches on the shoulders

PANTS. Olive green cargo pants.

FOOTWEAR. Black or tan boots.

EXTERNAL VEST. Deputies assigned to the Dirt Bike team shall wear an external vest. It shall be green in color and must display some form of identifying mark, such as a badge (facsimile or metal), or "SHERIFF" text.

GLOVES. Gloves in solid, muted colors shall be worn when operating an off-road motorcycle, or an all terrain vehicle.

PPE. Deputies shall wear appropriate PPE when operating an off-road motorcycle, or an open-cab all terrain vehicle in desert environments, including helmets and goggles.

Sheriff's Emergency Response Team Uniform

Utility Uniform shall be worn by deputies assigned to Sheriff's Emergency Response Team when conducting standard field activities.

During tactical operations, a tactical uniform shall be worn instead.


VERSION 1.

SHIRT. Green long sleeve combat shirt, bearing the subdued MCSO patch

PANTS. Green tactical pants.

BODY ARMOR. Similarly colored external armor, which displays "SHERIFF" or "MCSO".

HELMET. Similarly colored ballistic helmet.


VERSION 2.

SHIRT. Black long sleeve combat shirt.

PANTS. Black tactical pants.

BODY ARMOR. Green or black colored external armor, which displays "SHERIFF" or "MCSO".

HELMET. Similarly colored ballistic helmet.
