Uniform Types

Operational Dress Uniform

Standard working uniform ashore.


HAT. Navy blue Coast Guard unit ballcap.

SHIRT. Navy blue blouse with name tape and branch tape. Rolled sleeves.

PANTS. Navy blue trousers. Bloused when worn with combat boots.

BOOTS. Black combat boots.

Sea Patrol Uniform

Standard uniform when conducting field duties aboard any vessel. 

The base layer shall be the ODU, additionally equipped with the following accessories:

HELMET. When engaged in marine rescue operations, guardsmen shall wear a bump helmet. It shall either be orange and yellow, and bear the "USCG" lettering and the Coast Guard Service mark.

PERSONAL FLOTATION DEVICE (PFD). Guardsmen must wear a PFD (also known as a life jacket) when aboard a watercraft at all times. It shall be orange with reflective stripes and bear the Coast Guard Ensign and "U.S. COAST GUARD" lettering.

DUTY BELT. A black nylon belt with a plastic buckle shall be used. It must be equipped with a radio.

HOLSTER. A drop leg holster shall be used

Aviation Survival Technician Uniform

(Also known as "swimmers")

ASTs shall wear bright orange overalls with a harness, with optional yellow highlights. This uniform shall bear the Coast Guard Service mark and/or the Coast Guard Ensign.

ASTs shall wear protective goggles and a bump helmet. It shall either be orange and yellow, and bear the "USCG" lettering and the Coast Guard Service mark.

Coast Guard Pilot Uniform

Coast Guard pilots may choose to wear either a green jumpsuit with appropriate Coast Guard insignia and a flight helmet, or a green USCG marked flight suit with a harness and a flight helmet.

Coast Guard SWAT Uniform

Shall be worn by USCG SWAT (ERG) during tactical and VBSS operations.

SHIRT. Blue long sleeve combat shirt.

PANTS. Blue tactical pants.

BODY ARMOR. Black external armor, which displays “USCG".

HELMET. Similarly colored ballistic helmet.
