SA State Parks Peace Officer Rangers and Peace Officer Lifeguards
Officers patrolling as SASP may elect to patrol either as a Peace Officer Ranger (hereinafter "Ranger") or as a Peace Officer Lifeguard (hereinafter "Lifeguard").
Both are sworn law enforcement officers, and their duties overlap considerably. Both conduct patrol duties, issue citations, write reports, make physical arrests for misdemeanors, felonies, and warrants, conduct criminal and administrative investigation.
Rangers additionaly conduct visitor services, natural and cultural resource protection, administration, and interpretation and education, take command in emergencies, perform search and rescue activities, including detecting and rescuing persons or vessels in distress, assist in wildland and structural fire suppression, provide emergency medical aid, may also perform traffic control and radio dispatching. Specialized assignments include cliff rescue, off-road vehicle and motorcycle patrol, or canine team handler.
Lifeguards patrol on state beaches and near bodies of water located in state parks. They are open-water lifesaving professionals and trained peace officers with statewide authority. They help operate and manage state park units including coastal beaches, inland lakes, reservoirs, and rivers. Additionally, they may perform search and rescue activities, including detecting and rescuing persons or vessels in distress, provide emergency medical aid and may also perform traffic control and radio dispatching. Trained lifeguards may perform specialized assignments in scuba diving and ocean, surf, river, and lake rescue.
Ranger patrol uniform and its accessories are in tan, green and black colors, and bear the SA State Parks Ranger flash, which is green in color and designates the officer as a Ranger, and/or the plain SA State Parks patch.
Lifeguard patrol uniform and its accessories are in navy blue and black colors and bear the SA State Parks patch with the Lifeguard rocker.
Wearing of the Badge/Uniform
On-Duty, Uniformed Employees. Uniformed employees shall wear their official Department-issued badge on the outermost garment of their uniform. However officers in a Department-approved specialised uniform, or wearing department approved garments and accessories may wear a facsimile badge.
On-Duty, Plainclothes Officers. On-duty, plainclothes officers shall wear their official Department-issued badge so it is readily accessible for presentation to members of the public.
WHO SHALL WEAR UNIFORM. All employees regardless of rank shall wear the prescribed uniform and personal equipment during their tours of duty.
EXEMPTIONS TO WEARING UNIFORMS. The following officers are exempted from wearing the prescribed uniforms - Command officers; and, Undercover and plainclothes assignment officers.
Accessories
BASEBALL CAP. May be optionally worn by Officers with Class B / C uniform. Rangers may choose to wear a black baseball cap bearing the green Ranger flash. Lifeguards may choose to wear a blue baseball cap bearing the SA State Parks logo.
BELT. Officers shall wear a basketweave or black nylon duty belt.
Note: Deputies may choose to wear a basketweave holster so long as it matches with the belt type.
BICYCLE HELMET. Shall be worn by Rangers assigned to Bicycle Patrol. Shall be black in colour.
CAMPAIGN HAT. State Parks Peace Officers may choose to wear a campaign hat. It shall be plain, bearing no badging. For Rangers, it shall be straw colored, for Lifeguards, it shall be navy blue.
COLD WEATHER HAT. Officers may choose to wear a black fleece cap during inclement weather.
EARPIECE. Officers may choose to patrol with an earpiece.
EXTERNAL CARRIER VEST (STAB VEST). Rangers may choose to wear an external carrier vest when patrolling in a Class B / C uniform, or with K-9 uniform. External carrier vests shall be green in colour, and must display "POLICE", "SA STATE PARKS" as well as the SASP badge.
GLOVES. Black leather or knitted gloves may be worn for inclement weather. Gloves in solid, muted colors may be worn in situations where extra protection is required. Nitrile gloves may be worn when providing first aid, or collecting evidence.
HOLSTER. Unless specified, all officers shall wear their black holster on their belt.
JACKETS. Officers may choose to wear a department-issued jacket during inclement weather, or during cold periods of time.
OFFROAD HELMET. Black offroad style helmet with and chin protection no visor shall be worn by Rangers utilizing offroad bikes and all-terrain vehicles. It must be paired with protective goggles with clear or tinted lenses when operating such a vehicle.
PERSONAL FLOATATION DEVICE (PFD). May be worn during maritime operations.
POLO SHIRT. Officers may choose to patrol in a polo shirt when wearing Class B / C uniform. For Rangers, it shall be tan colored, and bear the text "RANGER" and the State Parks logo. For Lifeguards, it shall be dark in color, and bear the text "LIFEGUARD" and the State Parks logo.
SHOULDER / CHEST MIC. Officers may choose to wear a shoulder or chest mic for their radio.
SWEATER. Rangers and Lifeguards may optionally wear a woolen sweater. It shall be in the appropriate color, bear appropriate patches and a facsimile badge.
SWIMWEAR. Lifeguards assigned to beaches and boat details may wear swimwear and other accessories in place of their regular uniform when a standard uniform would be inappropriate. The swimwear shall be red in color and bear the SA State Parks Patch with the Lifeguard rocker.
TASER. If an officer chooses to utilise a taser, they shall use a yellow taser.
TURTLENECK. Officers may choose to wear a department-issued turtleneck under their duty shirt during inclement weather. It shall be green, and bear the text "RANGER", or blue, and bear the text "LIFEGUARD".
TRAPPER (AVIATOR) HAT. May optionally be worn during inclement weather. It must display the SASP badge. Rangers shall wear a green one, Lifeguards a navy blue one.
Uniform Types
Class A Uniform
Shall be worn by any officer attending a formal event.
May be worn by officers conducting field activities.
SHIRT. Long sleeve shirt to be worn with the tie.
PANTS. Dress pants in an appropriate color are mandatory for formal events and optional for patrol duties. BDU style pants in an appropriate color are optional for patrol duties.
FOOTWEAR. Black boots.
HAT. A campaign hat shall be worn by any officer attending a formal event. May be worn optionally on patrol.
Class B / C Uniform
May be worn by officers conducting field activities.
SHIRT. Long sleeve or short sleeve shirt, with open collar. Alternatively, Officers may choose to wear an appropriate polo shirt.
PANTS. BDU style pants in an appropriate color. During particularly warm weather, officers may choose to wear shorts in an appropriate color.
FOOTWEAR. Black or tan boots.
EXTERNAL CARRIER VEST (STAB VEST). Rangers may choose to wear an external carrier vest when patrolling. It shall be green in colour, and must display "POLICE", "SA STATE PARKS" as well as the SASP badge.
BASEBALL CAP. An approved baseball cap may be optionally worn.
K-9 Uniform
Rangers assigned to K-9 Division shall wear the K-9 uniform.
SHIRT. Long sleeve or short sleeve green utility shirt, with open collar, green in color. It shall bear the Ranger flash, State Parks patch, facsimile badge and K-9 tag.
PANTS. Green BDU style pants. May be bloused.
FOOTWEAR. Black or tan boots.
EXTERNAL CARRIER VEST (STAB VEST). Rangers assigned to K-9 may choose to wear an external carrier vest when patrolling. It shall be green in colour, and must display "POLICE", "SA STATE PARKS" as well as the SASP badge.
BASEBALL CAP. An approved baseball cap may be optionally worn.
HOLSTER. Rangers assigned to K-9 may choose to wear a drop leg holster.
Offroad Uniform
Rangers utilizing an offroad motorcycle, or an all terrain vehicle shall wear the Offroad Uniform.
VERSION 1
SHIRT. Long sleeve uniform shirt, with open collar. It shall bear the Ranger flash and State Parks patch.
PANTS. Green BDU style pants. May be bloused. Shin protectors may be worn.
FOOTWEAR. Black or tan boots.
EXTERNAL CARRIER VEST (STAB VEST). Rangers utilizing an offroad vehicle shall wear the carrier vest. It shall be green in colour, and must display "POLICE", "SA STATE PARKS" as well as the SASP badge.

SHIRT. Black or blue long sleeve dirt bike shirt bearing department insignia.
PANTS. Black or blue dirtbike pants with knee and shin protection. It must bear white text "RANGER".
FOOTWEAR. Black motorcycle boots.
EXTERNAL CARRIER VEST (STAB VEST). Rangers utilizing an offroad vehicle shall wear the carrier vest. It shall be green in colour, and must display "POLICE", "SA STATE PARKS" as well as the SASP badge.
OFFROAD HELMET. Black and white offroad style helmet with and chin protection no visor shall be worn by Rangers utilizing offroad bikes and all-terrain vehicles. It must display white "RANGER" text be paired with protective goggles with clear or tinted lenses when operating such a vehicle.

Bicycle Uniform
Shall be worn by any Ranger assigned to Bicycle Detail.
SHIRT. Polo shirt. It shall be tan colored, and bear the text "RANGER" and the State Parks logo.
PANTS. BDU Pants, or Shorts, both forest green in colour.
FOOTWEAR. Black sneakers.
HELMET. Rangers shall wear an approved bicycle helmet when operating a bicycle.
Pilot Uniform
JUMPSUIT: A plain, olive green flight jumpsuit shall be worn by State Parks pilots.
HELMET: A plain, white helmet shall be worn.
FOOTWEAR: Black boots.
GLOVES: Green or black nomex flight gloves may be worn.
Note: No additional badging or accessories (such as belts) are permitted, in order to maintain uniformity.

Lifeguard
